On the Second Railway Congress

JSC Russian Railways will hold the Second Railway Congress on 18-19 November, 2011 in Moscow.

The event is organised to consider key issues in the modernisation of rail transport and its impact on the country’s economy. Discussion is planned to cover strategic development goals for developing the Russian railways in the context of protecting the socio-economic interests of the government and meeting the economy’s growing need for freight and passenger transport.

Special attention will be paid to questions of improving rail infrastructure, attracting investments and strengthening mechanisms for public-private partnerships, developing a high-speed rail network, introducing cutting edge information technologies to railway transport, and human resource development.

Given the theme of the congress and its crossover issues of developing key sectors of the Russian economy, the event will include the heads of federal and regional government agencies, JSC Russian Railways, large industrial enterprises, railway equipment operator companies, industry associations and social organisations, railway administrations from “Area 1520” countries and Europe, as well as representatives from major foreign companies.

At the end of the event, a resolution summarising key suggestions for further measures to modernise railway services will be passed.
